Cultivation & care:

Care instructions

Birky contains coconut fiber granulate, clay granulate, compostable planting pot and a plant seed packet.

  • Carefully peel off the sticker.
  • Open the seed packet and carefully remove any stringy orange tufts attached to them with a clean knife.
  • Put the seeds in a glass with luke warm water for about 48 hours.
  • After 48 hours remove seeds from water and plant the seeds 1-2 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) deep and a few centimetres/several inches apart. Slowly pour about 30 ml of water on the planted seeds.
  • Place in a bright, warm place and water moderately until germination (approx. 20 ml about every 3 days). The granules should not dry out – avoid waterlogging!
  • Bird-of-paradise flower seeds are slow to germinate, taking up to 8 weeks to germinate. Continue watering the plants moderately.
  • It will take 4-6 years for the plant to start blooming.
  • If the plants get too big, simply transplant them with the compostable pot into a flower pot with some soil. The Birky can then be used as a pen holder, for example!
